SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team fell short against No. 4 Stanford, 4-3, at the Hogan Tennis Center, Sunday.

Both teams went point-for-point at the beginning of doubles play, knotting all three courts at one. No. 3 duo Mary Stoiana/Mia Kupres picked up their first ranked win of the season, defeating No. 27 Angelica Blake/Alexis Blokhina 6-2, giving A&M the leg up. Stanford evened the score, leaving it all up to court 2. New pair, Lucciana Perez/Nicole Khirin tied the match at five before the Cardinal claimed the advantage at the break.

Entering singles play, No. 1 Stoiana made quick work of Stanford's No. 48 Blake (6-0, 6-3) to eliminate the Cardinal advantage. Shortly after, Stanford claimed court 4 and 5 taking back the lead, 3-1. On court 2, No. 31 Khirin downed No. 11 Connie Ma in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) marking her first ranked win of the season. Next court over, No. 26 Kupres tied the match with a victory over No. 49 Alexandra Yepifnova (6-2, 4-6, 7-6). Ultimately, Stanford secured the match after taking court 6, 4-3.

Up Next
The Aggies head home for a doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Mitchell Tennis Center, with first serve set for 12 p.m. versus Harvard with Abilene Christian to follow at 4:30 p.m.
