No. 9 Aggies Set to Host Third Consecutive ITA Kickoff Weekend
Jan 26, 2024 | Women's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 9 Texas A&M women's tennis team is set to host Northwestern, TCU and Rice for the 16th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Mitchell Tennis Center. A&M faces Northwestern, Saturday at 12 p.m. and will take on TCU/Rice, Sunday at the same time.
The Aggies are looking to head back to Seattle, Washington for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Last year, A&M triumphed over FAU and Florida to punch its ticket to the tournament.
The Maroon & White open their weekend versus the 3-0 Northwestern Wildcats. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two, but first on A&M's courts. The Aggies hold a 2-1 record over the Wildcats with the last meeting finishing in a 5-1 victory in A&M's favor.
The following day, the Aggies could square off against TCU or Rice. A&M boasts an 8-1 overall advantage over TCU, including a 5-1 record at home. It has been two years since the squads have competed, with the last matchup ending in a 5-2 decision in favor of the Maroon & White.
This could be the eighth all-time matchup between the Aggies and Rice. A&M holds a 5-2 overall edge over the Owls, with the last meeting ending with an Aggie sweep in Houston year ago.
"We are very excited to host the ITA Kickoff Weekend," head coach Mark Weaver said. "This will also be our first time in front of the 12th Man this season. We are very familiar with the teams competing here, so should be fun filled weekend."
Fans can follow the action with live stats or watch the matches through the programs livestream.
