Aggies Wrap Day One of SMU Classic

DALLAS – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program officially began its 2024-25 season Friday night at the SMU Classic. The women's team currently holds second place overall with 149 points. The men totaled 111 points and sit in sixth place.
The women's 400 medley relay team of Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek clocked a 3:33.67 to kick off the meet and place second. The men's 400 medley relay team of Thomas Shomper, Alex Sanchez, Clayton Conklin and Ben Scholl notched a time of 3:09.91.
Theall put together a strong night at the pool with multiple top-five finishes. The fifth-year senior recorded a 22.97 in the 50 free to place fourth and touched the wall at 52.65 in the 100 fly to place third.
Stepanek and Owens added big points of their own for the Aggies in individual competition. Stepanek swam a 1:44.22 in the 200 free to place first, and Owens recorded a 52.85 in the 100 back to place third.
Conklin, Sanchez and Shomper each finished in the top five of their respective individual events. Conklin notched a time of 47.59 in the 100 fly, Sanchez went 54.06 in the 100 breast, and Shomper finished the 100 back at 47.12.
Giulia Goerigk finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.30. Kennett posted a time of 1:02.06 in the 100 breast, placing fourth.
In his first swim as an Aggie, freshman Jacob Wimberly recorded a time of 1:38.84 in the 200 free. Baylor Nelson clocked a time of 3:49.29 to place fourth in the 400 IM.
Stepanek, along with Katie Walker, Hayden Miller and Jordan Buechler finished second in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:09.98. The men's 800 free relay team of Nelson, Wimberly, Collin Fuchs and Munzy Kabbara notched a time of 6:37.99.
On the diving end, Mayson Richards posted a 297.20 on the 3-meter springboard to place second. Leonardo Garcia scored 287.25 on the men's 1-meter.
The Aggies will wrap up action at the SMU Classic Saturday afternoon with competition resuming at 11 a.m.
