SEATTLE – The No. 9 Texas A&M women's tennis team downed the No. 14 Auburn Tigers, 4-1, Saturday evening in the consolation bracket at the ITA National Indoor Championships.
Bouncing back from Friday's match, the Aggies (5-4) came out firing in doubles play versus Auburn (4-3). No. 3 Mary Stoiana/Mia Kupres made quick work of the Tigers' Ariana Arseneault/Angella Okutoyi (6-1) on court 1 to steal the advantage. Nicole Khirin/Lucciana Perez dealt the final blow to ensure the doubles point, as they downed DJ Bennett/Adeline Flach (6-4) on court 2.
The Aggies got straight to work, taking five first sets of singles play. No. 32 Khirn doubled the lead from court 2, as she bested No. 61 Arseneault in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Across the way, Jeanette Mireles put the Aggies within one point of the match win, as she defeated Ava Esposito Cogan (6-2, 6-4) on court 6. Auburn answered back with one of their own on court 4, before No. 24 Kupres sealed the deal on court 3 with a victory over No. 43 Bennett (6-1, 7-5).
