ATHENS – The No. 14 Texas A&M women's tennis team hits the road to take on the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, with first serve set for 4 p.m. Followed by a matchup at No. 22 Tennessee Sunday held at Barksdale Stadium, starting at 11 a.m.
Heading into another weekend of SEC play, the No. 14 Aggies (12-5, 4-0 SEC) look to continue their perfect conference record after winning their first four league matches. Texas A&M faced Georgia (9-3, 4-0 SEC) this season at the ITA National Team Indoors and the Bulldogs snatched a close 4-2 win. Last season the teams split a pair of competitive matches, with Texas A&M claiming a 5-2 win in the regular season to clinch the conference title, before Georgia won in the SEC Tournament final, 4-2.
"We've had some all-time classic matches with Georgia over the course of the last few years," head coach Mark Weaver said. "We're playing some of our best tennis of the season right now and will be ready to go Friday."
The Maroon & White have had the better of No. 22 Tennessee in recent years, winning their last four matches. Last year, the Aggies won a pair of contests versus the Volunteers, first in the regular season claiming a 6-1 win at home, followed by a 4-1 victory in the NCAA Super Regional round.
"Tennessee is having another solid season," Weaver added. "We will need to perform at a high level all weekend, as Tennessee is another tough place to play."
The Aggies recently swept their second-straight weekend of SEC play, blanking Mississippi State to open the week, 4-0, and followed up two days later downing Ole Miss, 6-1, extending their overall win-streak to seven matches.
A&M is still led by the No. 1 player in the country, Mary Stoiana. The junior holds an eight-match win-streak in singles play and has won three in a row with her partner Mia Kupres, as the pair still rank No. 6 in the nation as a duo. The Maroon & White's No. 17 Nicole Khirin boasts the team's longest-active undefeated run which sits at 10.
