BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 11 Texas A&M women's tennis team hosts No. 29 Vanderbilt Friday and No. 67 Kentucky Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center with first serves set for 5 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
"We are excited to be back home playing in front of the 12th Man after being on the road for the last two weeks," head coach Mark Weaver said. "We always play with an extra sense of confidence in the confines of the Mitchell Tennis Center, and I know that we will be ready to go against a good Vanderbilt team."
The Aggies (13-6, 5-1 SEC) have dominated the matchup with Vanderbilt (8-4, 3-2 SEC) over the last three seasons, winning all six matches and outscoring the Commodores 26-6. Texas A&M won a pair of matches versus Vanderbilt last year, the first in Nashville to close the SEC regular season, 4-1, and then a week later at the SEC Tournament once again finishing 4-1.
"Every SEC match is a challenge whether you are on the road or have the luxury of playing at home," Weaver added. "We will be ready to go and excited to play against Kentucky on Sunday."
A&M concludes its weekend versus Kentucky (7-7, 1-4 SEC). The Maroon & White hold a strong advantage in the all-time series between the teams, 8-4, and are a perfect 5-0 when playing at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released a new set of team, singles and doubles rankings. The Aggies climbed three spots in the team rankings to No. 11. Mary Stoiana remains as the No. 1 singles player in the country and has topped the rankings since November. Nicole Khirin jumped to No. 14, while Mia Kupres holds the No. 36 spot, and finally in doubles Stoiana/Kupres moved up to No. 5.
