Mar 07, 2024 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – The No. 13 Texas A&M women's tennis team continues conference play on the road against Mississippi State, March 8, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre and No. 42 Ole Miss, March 10, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
A new set of ITA rankings were announced Tuesday. Still at the top of the hill, Mary Stoiana sits as the No. 1 player in the nation for the 16th consecutive week. Nicole Khirin moved up in the rankings, sitting at No. 17 and Mia Kupres comes in at No. 30. The dynamic duo of Stoiana/Kupres remains in the top-10 at No. 6.
Stoiana received her first SEC weekly honor of the season and 12th of her career this week after helping the Aggies take down then-No. 14 South Carolina and No. 19 Florida to open conference play.
Last time out, the Maroon & White (10-5, 2-0 SEC) secured their second conference victory of the season over then-No. 19 Florida (4-3). The Aggies picked up their 49th-straight win at the Mitchell Tennis Center and their 28th straight SEC regular season win. A&M secured the doubles point with victories from Jeanette Mireles/Lucciana Perez and Stoiana/Kupres. Khirin took the first singles court, followed by Mireles on court 6. The Gators answered back but Stoiana clinched the match on court 1 for the Aggies.
The Maroon & White boast an 11-1 record over the Bulldogs (9-4, 0-1 SEC) since 2013, with the last matchup ending in a 7-0 decision for the Aggies. Headed to Starkville, A&M holds a 4-1 advantage on Mississippi State's home courts. The Maroon & White own an 8-3 advantage over the Rebels (7-2, 1-0 SEC) since 2012. The Aggies aim to increase their standing to a 5-1 road record against Ole Miss.
"Our team is definitely carrying some momentum into our first SEC road trip this season," head coach Mark Weaver said. "Our match with Mississippi State will be indoors which always brings us a different feel. Having said that, we have had the opportunity to play a handful of indoor matches already this season and we will be ready to go."
