Aggies look to give Coach Guerrieri a historic win Sunday evening at Ellis Field.
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M looks to put chief G Guerrieri in sole possession of fourth place on the all-time wins list among NCAA Division I coaches when the Maroon & White host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Sunday at 6 p.m.
Guerrieri would separate himself from retired Florida coach Becky Burleigh on the list when he notches win 514. He would also elevate to No. 8 on the career coaching victory chart among all NCAA divisions. Guerrieri ranks second among active NCAA Division I coaches with his 513 wins, trailing only Santa Clara's Jerry Smith (553).
The Aggies enter the fray riding high after Thursday's 2-0 blanking of the TCU Horned Frogs at Ellis Field. Texas A&M got second half goals from seniors MaKhiya McDonald and Mia Pante and freshman Sydney Fuller made five saves for her second career shutout as the Maroon & White snapped their three-game losing streak in the series against TCU.
Texas A&M has three shutouts through five matches, including blank slates by two different freshman netminders. Maysen Veronda kept Lamar (5-0) off the board in the opener, but suffered a long-term injury in a workout the week after the match. Fuller stepped up and posted shutouts against Fairfield (3-0) and TCU.
Despite being only 300 miles apart, the Aggies and Bulldogs have never squared off on the pitch. Texas A&M is undefeated all-time against teams from the Pelican State with a 26-0-3 (.948) record. The mark includes series advantages against LSU (12-0-3), McNeese (3-0), Northwestern State (3-0), Centenary (2-0), Grambling (2-0), Tulane (2-0), Louisiana (1-0) and Southern (1-0).
Louisiana Tech had its match slated for last Thursday against Mississippi State canceled due to inclement weather. The Bulldogs ride into town on a three-game unbeaten string including wins in their two most recent games against Jackson State (4-1) and Arkansas State (1-0). After going scoreless in their first three matches, including 0-0 draws against Nicholls and Louisiana, the Bulldogs have eight goals in their last three matches. Kalli Matlock, Kyra Taylor and Dakota Merino have two goals apiece for the Bulldogs who enter play without an assist on the season.
The match is available on SEC Network+ with David Ellis (play-by-play) and Jeff Given (color) on the broadcast. A radio call of the match airs on Gospel 97.3 FM in the Brazos Valley with the audio also available in the 12th Man Mobile app.
