No. 17/19 Aggies Face Rival Texas in Final Dual Meet of the Season

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program travels to Austin for its final dual meet of the season against No. 1/2 Texas on Jan. 31 at the Jamail Texas Swim Center. Diving action is set to begin at 12:50 p.m., with swimming starting at 3 p.m. The winning team on both the men's and women's side will each earn one point towards the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown.
After consecutive dual meets against Florida and LSU, the Aggie men improved their national rank to No. 17, and the women moved up to No. 19.
Baylor Nelson topped the 200 free against Florida with a season-best time of 1:36.51. In the LSU meet, Munzy Kabbara posted a career-best 1:45.38 in the 200 fly and Nelson added on to a big week with a career-best 9:00.54 in the 1000 free, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. Alex Sanchez took charge for the Aggies against LSU in the breaststroke events, clocking a 53.53 in the 100 and a 1:56.11 in the 200 to win both events. Connor Foote recorded a pair of wins on both days in the 100 free, going 44.20 against Florida and 42.74 against LSU.
On the women's side, the 400 medley relay squad of Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek notched their best time of the year at 3:31.63. Theall added major points for the Maroon & White both days, claiming first in the 100 fly (52.82) and 200 fly (1:56.18) against LSU and touching the wall first in the 200 fly (1:58.88) versus Florida.
Stepanek found success in freestyle competition, topping the 100 free against Florida at 50.18. The graduate student won the 200 free against LSU with a time of 1:44.40 and came in second in the 100 free with a time of 48.51. Owens (52.75) and Aviv Barzelay (53.91) contributed top-five times in the 100 back against LSU, and Barzelay added a second-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.56.
In diving action, Else Praasterink swept the springboards against LSU, posting a personal-best 348.08 on the 3-meter and a season-high 298.28 on the 1-meter. Allen Bottego won the 3-meter springboard competition both days, scoring 411.30 against Florida and a personal-best 425.40 in the LSU meet.
The Texas men's team ranks as the top program in the nation and is undefeated in dual meet competition this season, while the women's team ranks No. 2 with a 6-1 record in dual meets.
