Aggies Trek to Carolina to Battle No. 8 Gamecocks
Oct 18, 2025 | Soccer
COLUMBIA – The Texas A&M soccer team makes its last regular season road trip when the Aggies face the No. 8 South Carolina Gamecocks in Sunday's 5 p.m. match at Stone Stadium.
The soccer version of the Bonham Trophy battle has been tightly contested from the beginning. Thirteen of the 14 matches have been decided by one goal or less. Historically a defensive kerfuffle, neither team has ever scored more than two goals in a match and six times the final score has been 1-0. The Aggies own a 7-5-2 in the advantage, but the series is tied 1-1-1 at Stone Stadium.
A plurality of the matches has been played at the SEC Tournament with the Maroon & White own a 4-2-0 edge. Most recently, the Aggies claimed a 1-0 victory with a 79th-minute goal against South Carolina in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal.
Trinity Buchanan leads the Aggie offense with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Kaylee Noble has added 11 points on four goals and three assists.
Maysen Veronda has logged the most minutes in goal, earning eight starts. She has 27 saves, two shutouts and a 1.20 goals-against average in 675 minutes. Sydney Fuller has six starts with 19 saves, one shutout and a 1.33 goals-against average in 540 minutes.
Bella Yakel has played all 1,350 minutes to lead the Aggies. The center back entered the campaign as the most-seasoned Texas A&M player, having accumulated 4,132 minutes during her three seasons at Portland. The senior defender has 72 Division I caps on her resume, including 64 starts. She earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for her efforts against Texas and Oklahoma. Most recently, she scored the game-winning penalty kick in the Aggies' 2-1 victory over Missouri.
South Carolina (10-2-4, 4-1-3 SEC) fell four points behind Arkansas in its quest for the SEC title when the Gamecocks dropped a 3-2 decision at Kentucky Thursday. The team was on a seven-match unbeaten string before the loss. Carolina, which has yielded just 10 goals on the season, has only surrendered more than one goal twice on the season – the 3-2 loss to Kentucky and a 2-2 draw against Arkansas.
Katie Shea Collins leads South Carolina with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. Mackenzie Johnson has added 15 points on six goals and three assists. Cuyler Zulauf supplements the attack with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
