Oct 03, 2025 | Cross Country
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Texas A&M cross country team secured a pair of top four finishes at the Paul Short Run, as the men placed third and the women claimed fourth Friday morning at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
The Aggies had another impressive showing at the third meet of the 2025 campaign delivering a pair top four finishes versus a stacked field at Lehigh University. The men were paced by Cooper Cawthra for the second-straight meet, while Megan Roberts topped the Aggie women for the second time this season.
"A very solid trip for us," distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "Both teams ran very well and, more importantly, competed tough. We took some chances out there, both groups were out aggressively and that will pay off down the line."
The men were up first on the day, claiming third overall with 137 points against a 40-team field around the 8k course. Cawthra led the way for Texas A&M taking fourth individually with a time of 23:00.9. He was followed by Jack Johnston in 10th (23:28.0), Victor Kibiego in 38th (23:56.8), Youssef Asslouj in 39th (23:57.1) and Carter Gordy in 46th (24:00.9).
"Cooper [Cawthra] and Jack [Johnston] are both running at a higher level than they ever have in cross country," McRaven added. "They gave us two low scores at the front. Victor [Kibiego] and Youssef [Asslouj] did a very nice job in their season openers and Carter [Gordy] has just become a steady 'Mister Reliable' for us."
The women took on the 6k course finishing the day in fourth place with a total of 172 points. Roberts claimed 11th punching in a time of 20:02.7, she was followed by Debora Cherono in 13th (20:06.3), Joyce Kemboi in 22nd (20:21.1), Staucie Lees in 58th (20:52.5) and Elise Smoot in 68th (21:02.8).
"Megan [Roberts] ran a smart race and attacked the second half," McRaven continued. "Debora [Cherono] had a great debut in her first cross country race as an Aggie, Joyce [Kemboi] is showing excellent consistency, Staucie [Lees] ran probably her best college race so far and Elise [Smoot] bailed us out with a big finish, she's turning into a great cross country runner."
