Aggies Open SEC Play at No. 11 Texas

AUSTIN – The No. 6 Texas A&M women's tennis team opens SEC play at No. 11 Texas Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center at noon.
The Aggies (9-1) took down the Longhorns (5-3), 4-2, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on their run to a program first indoor final.
Texas A&M boasts four players in the singles ITA Top 125 and one ranked duo. Mary Stoiana, who leads the team in ranked wins with 11, ranks as the No. 3 singles player in the nation and is coming off her first SEC Player of the Week award of the year after leading the Maroon & White to a dominant 6-1 victory over No. 16 Pepperdine.
All-American Nicole Khirin comes in at the No. 15 spot. The junior has eight ranked victories and is on an 11-match winning streak heading into the match. She also holds a team-high 20 wins on the season.
Rounding out the rankings for the Aggies are 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year and ITA Texas Region Rookie of the Year Lucciana Perez at 55 and 2024 doubles All-American Mia Kupres at 90. Perez also pairs with Stoiana to rank as the No. 30 doubles team in the country.
Lexington Reed, who plays on court 6 in singles and court 3 with Khirin in doubles, earned her first league honors after last week's win over Pepperdine, winning the SEC Freshman of the Week award following her first ranked victory of the season. The freshman has 15 wins on the year.
Texas features six ranked players in singles, including No. 25 Carmen Herea, No. 54 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo, No. 87 Sabina Zeynalova, No. 104 Ashton Bowers, No. 107 Vivian Ovrootsky and No. 124 Eszter Meri. In doubles action, Bowers and Zeynalova pair to rank as the No. 36 duo in the nation and Bowers/Anazagasty-Pursoo rank at 63.
