TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: ITA National Team Indoor Championships

EVANSTON – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team remains in Illinois for the ITA National Indoor Team Championships. The Aggies face the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners in Monday's semifinal round at Northwestern's Combe Tennis Center at 6:30 p.m.
The Maroon & White advanced to the semis with an impressive 4-0 victory over Illinois in the opening round and a tenacious 4-2 triumph over No. 11 Texas in the quarterfinal.
Texas A&M enters the fray with a 7-0 record on the season and a 13-match win streak dating back to last year's NCAA Championship run.
Reigning ITA National Player of the Year Mary Stoiana is currently ranked No. 3 and owns an 11-2 record. All-American Nicole Khirin is ranked No. 12 and owns a nine-match win streak, including a gutsy three-set victory to clinch the quarterfinal win over the Longhorns. Lucciana Perez (No. 41), Mia Kupres (No. 101) and Daria Smetannikov (No. 125) are also ranked in singles play.
The Sooners' nationally ranked singles players include No. 13 Julia Garcia Ruiz, No. 43 Alina Shcherbinina, No. 91 Ava Catanzarite, No. 103 Salakthip Ounmang and No. 114 Gloriana Nahum. Oklahoma features two ranked doubles tandems with Shcherbinina/Cara Mester at No. 47 and Garcia Ruiz/Chloe Noel at No. 58.
The winner faces either No. 1 Georgia or No. 5 Virginia in Tuesday's championship at Combe Tennis Center.
