AUBURN – The No. 3 Texas A&M women's tennis team battles No. 6 Auburn and Florida over the weekend to start a four-match road stint.
Friday's match against the Tigers is 5 p.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Sunday's contest versus the Gators is 11 a.m. at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The Aggies are led by back-to-back SEC Player of the Year, Mary Stoiana, who rates as the No. 3 singles player in the nation and leads the team in ranked wins with 12. All-American Nicole Khirin is just behind her with nine ranked victories, and the junior boasts the second-most total wins on the team with 22. Khirin is also undefeated when playing on court 2, owning a 6-0 record on the year.
Mia Kupres shot up the ITA rankings after her performance in last weekend's matches versus Arkansas and No. 12 Oklahoma. In singles, the junior climbed from No. 90 to the No. 51 spot, and from unranked to No. 68 in doubles with her partner Daria Smetannikov.
2024 SEC Freshman of the Year, Lucciana Perez, who ranks as the No. 55 player in the nation, has won four matches in a row heading into the weekend. The sophomore is 12-3 and undefeated when playing on court 3 (5-0). Paired with Stoiana, the duo checks in as No. 31 in the country, leading the team in ranked victories with three.
Rounding out the lineup for the Aggies are Smetannikov, who leads the team in total victories with 23, and Lexington Reed. Reed has scored the first point in singles for the Maroon & White in all three SEC matches this season and earned SEC Freshman of the Week after Texas A&M's match versus Pepperdine on Feb. 16.
