BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team wraps up a season-opening, four-match home stand with a stiff test against perennial power UConn in Saturday's 8 p.m. match at Ellis Field.
The contest features two of the most-storied NCAA soccer programs. The Huskies rank second on the all-time Division I wins list with 630 while the Aggies check in at No. 14 with 503 victories.
Texas A&M enters the fray with a 1-0-2 mark with 1-1 ties against Baylor and Texas State sandwiched around a 1-0 victory over Lamar.
Offseason transfers have accounted for all of the Aggies' offense through three matches. UNLV transfer Trinity Buchanan has accounted for two goals, including a game-winner against Lamar and a late equalizer versus Texas State. Tulsa transfer Leah Diaz scored A&M's goal in the season-opening draw against Baylor. Diaz also has an assist on the season. Ole Miss transfer Hattie Patterson has two assists while Cal State Fullerton transfer Kaylee Noble and Cal Baptist transfer Mia Scranton own one assist apiece.
Bella Yakel has played all 270 minutes to lead the Aggies. The starting center back entered the campaign as the most-seasoned Aggie, having logged 4,132 minutes during her three seasons in Portland. The senior defender has 60 Division I caps on her resume, including 52 starts.
This marks the second soccer match between Texas A&M and UConn. The Huskies won the initial contest, 6-0, last season in Storrs.
