Feb 28, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – No. 14 Texas A&M softball won its 14th-straight game Sunday, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 10-0, in five innings at the Aggie Softball Complex.
"I am really happy with the way we played this weekend," head coach Jo Evans said. "I thought we stayed really consistent in our level of play, enthusiasm and attention to detail. I was pleased to see us not let down at all. Our offense was so potent throughout the order. We saw home runs from the top and bottom of the lineup. We were able to string a lot of hits together. Our hitters are making adjustments at the plate and taking their walks and making it hard on the opposing pitchers."
The Aggies (17-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a freshman Riley Sartain sacrifice fly, before scoring nine runs in the next two innings.
Freshman Keeli Milligan began the third with a bunt single and stole her 22nd base of the season to move into scoring position for freshman Kaitlyn Alderink, who drove in Milligan on an infield single. Sophomore Tori Vidales plated Alderink on a double to right center, before Cali Lanphear singled on a bunt and moved Vidales to third.
Senior Breanna Dozier walked to load the bases for sophomore Kristen Cuyos, who on the 13th pitch of the at bat hit her second grand slam in as many days to give A&M a 7-0 lead. The Pearland, Texas native leads the team in home runs with seven.
Lanphear recorded her team-leading 22nd RBI in the fourth with a double to right field, plating Alderink, who led the bottom of the fourth off with a double to left center. Sophomore Ashley Walters singled to left to score Vidales and Lanphear.
Senior Katie Marks earned her third win of the season in the circle, giving up three hits while striking out two in five innings.
The Aggies return to action March 4-6 at the San Diego Classic in San Diego, Calif. All Aggie games at the tournament can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM.
