Oct 26, 2017 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team dropped No. 7 TCU, 16-3, Thursday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
"I was really happy with them today. We were really strong in a lot of places. We found some really good consistency across the board, and consistency is the name of the game in this sport," head coach Tana McKay said. "We are on a great roll, but now it is time to get back to dissecting the videos and cleaning up what we can before Auburn. We just need to make sure we continue to take care of all the little pieces before next Friday."
The Aggies (5-1) quickly took a 4-1 lead after the day's first event, Equitation over Fences. Rachael Hake defeated Raegan Rast, 88-84, to earn MOP honors before Rebekah Chenelle topped Mady Fithian, 85-61. Alex Desiderio dominated Carley Barnett, 85-40, as Caroline Dance closed the event with a 76-62 win over Jayme Omand.
In Horsemanship, Texas A&M extended its lead to 8-2 over the Horned Frogs (2-3). Avery Ellis notched a 74.5-73 victory over Lucie Lundquist as Bailey Cook defeated Laska Anderson, 76-73, to earn MOP honors. Ashley Davidson scored a 75, bettering Josie Mootz' 73, and Kyra Bouma toppled Cyndey Benes, 74.5-72.5.
The Maroon & White continued their dominance in the Hunt Seat arena, winning Equitation on the Flat, 4-1. Chenelle downed Patty Gill, 87-0 before Brianna Peddicord defeated Rast, 75-62.
Desiderio clinched the win for the Aggies with an 88-85 victory over Emelie Burgess. Hake closed the event, topping Carley Barnett, 96-89, which broke the school record for highest scoring regular season ride in Equitation on the Flat. Hake also earned her second MOP honor of the day for her record-setting efforts.
Texas A&M concluded the meet with a 4-0 triumph in Reining. Kalee McCann tallied the first point for the Aggies with a 68-65.5 victory over Josie Ferrante before Courtney Yohey bettered Mackenzie Preston, 69.5-68.5.
