Match Day Preview: No. 19 Oklahoma State
Aug 31, 2017 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies open their home slate Friday when they host the No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowgirls for Fish Camp Night at Ellis Field. First kick is slated for 8 pm.
Annually one of the most highly attended collegiate soccer matches in the country, this Fish Camp Night figures to be no different as both squads enter the fray with unblemished marks. Texas A&M is 2-0-0 on the year with a pair of victories in California with triumphs against Pepperdine (1-0, ot) and San Diego (2-0). Oklahoma State is 4-0-0 on the season with wins against Loyola, UMKC, Oklahoma and Creighton.
With last Saturday's match canceled due to Hurricane Harvey, Texas A&M is in the midst of the program's longest in-season idle spell with 11 days off between matches.
Jimena Lopez earned SEC Freshman of the Week recognition the opening week as she scored two goals in California and helped anchor a defense that limited opponents to just four shots on goal in over 180 minutes of action. Cosette Morché earned two shutouts in goal.
Texas A&M is 21-3 all-time in home openers.
Charmé Morgan leads OSU with three goals on the season. Jaci Jones also has six points with one goal and four assists. Anna Beffer has three assists on the year. The Cowgirls have had 10 different players notch a goal. Tanya de Souza and Michela Ongaro have shared time in goal with each appearing in all four matches with two starts apiece. They've split the 360 minutes right down the middle. Both have 0.50 goals-against averages with de Souza making two saves and Ongaro recording four.
The Aggies are 16-1-3 all-time against Oklahoma State. The last meeting between the schools came at the 2011 Big 12 Championship final with Texas A&M triumphing, 1-0, on a goal by Megan Majewski with just nine seconds remaining in the second half. The Cowgirls' lone win came in 2009 Big 12 Championship final with OSU claiming a 1-0 victory.
Friday's match will be available digitally on mobile devices, computers and connect-TVs for SEC Network subscribers whose cable/satellite packages allow access to SEC Network+ through the WatchESPN app and SECSports.com. David Ellis (play-by-play) and Kristi Leonard (color) will handle the call. Audio for the match will be streamed worldwide on 12thMan.com/Listen.
