COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies look to start 7-0-0 for the third time in program history and the first time since 1997 when they host the Colorado College Tigers in an 8 p.m. contest Friday evening at Ellis Field.
Texas A&M is riding high following a 4-0 thumping of No. 9 Santa Clara last Sunday. The Aggies started the year with four consecutive shutouts before topping Oklahoma, 3-1, last Friday. The Maroon & White boast a school-record 21-match unbeaten streak with their last loss coming at Auburn (0-1) on September 15, 2017.
Junior forward Ally Watt has scored in each of the last five matches, accounting for six goals over the span. With a tally against Colorado College, Watt would be the first Aggie to score in six consecutive matches since Linsey Woodard in 2001. The Aggies' school record is seven matches by Woodard in 2002 and Bryn Blalack in 1995. Her current five-game string is the longest since Ashlee Pistorius in 2007. Pistorius also strung together a five-gamer in 2006.
The Aggies have eight set-piece goals on the season. The tally includes four free kicks, three corner kicks and one penalty kick.
Texas A&M is experiencing it's best defensive start in school history. The five shutouts are the most in program annals through six matches and the one goal allowed topped the low mark of two goals allowed through six matches in 2005.
The Aggies have 11 different players who have scored goals in 2018. Only Florida State boasts more players to tally a goal this season, with 12. Twelve teams have at least 10 players who have scored goals in 2018. Among the teams, only Texas A&M and Southern Mississippi also boast a player who has scored at least six goals.
The Aggies and Tigers met on one prior occasion. Texas A&M toppled Colorado College, 2-0, in 2003 to claim the Adidas Classic in Spring, Texas.
Colorado College is one of the most storied program in women's collegiate soccer, including playing in NCAA College Cup finals in 1986 and '89. The Tigers advanced to three other College Cups, including 1985, '90 and '91.
This season, the Colorado College is off to their best start since 2008. The Tigers started the season with wins over Northern Colorado (2-1) and Denver (2-0) to move to the front of the Colorado Cup standings. Colorado College added a win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-0) before suffering their first loss of the season against Columbia (2-1).
The contest will be available for viewing on SEC Network+ with David Ellis (play-by-play) and Jeff Given (color) handling the call. SECNetwork+ provides events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). The game will also air on 102.7 The Zone locally and RadioAggieland.com worldwide.
