No. 2 A&M Falls in Season Opener

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team fell to the San Diego Toreros, 5-2, Saturday at the Hogan Tennis Center to begin its 2024 spring season.
In doubles play, the Toreros were first to strike, taking courts 2 and 3 for the early lead. Texas A&M's No. 3 Mia Kupres/Mary Stoiana were on their way to victory on court 1 (5-3) before the point was secured.
Heading into singles, San Diego kept its momentum despite A&M's efforts and ultimately won the match with triumphs on courts 2, 4 and 6. Playing out the remaining courts, Lucciana Perez picked up her first collegiate win against Abigail Desiatnikov on court 3 (6-3, 3-6, 6-1). Finishing off the match, Daria Smetannikov claimed a victory on court 5 against Kailey Evans (3-6, 7-5, 6-3).
