Aggies Battle No. 4 Arkansas to 0-0 Draw
Oct 24, 2024 | Soccer
Sydney Fuller makes 10 saves in the shutout
FAYETTEVILLE – The Texas A&M soccer team put on a gritty performance and played No. 4 Arkansas to a 0-0 draw Thursday night at Razorback Field.
Freshman Sydney Fuller came up huge in goal with a career-high 10 saves in goal. The Aggie backline also cleared to balls out of the face of goal to record two team saves.
The Aggies withstood a first-half barrage as Arkansas peppered 12 shots, including eight on goal, but the Maroon & White took the game to the intermission scoreless.
The shots were more even in the second half. The Razorbacks owned an 8-6 edge, but Texas A&M produced some prime opportunities to score. In the 52nd minute Adysen Armenta ripped a shot from 12 yards that Arkansas netminder Keegan Smith had to parry off the crossbar. In the 81st minute, Sydney Becerra took a free kick from 19 yards, reminiscent of the game-tying goal she scored against LSU last Friday, but it came a hair's breadth high of target.
The last best scoring opportunity for either team came in the 88th minute with Mia Pante coming up a foot right of goal on a hard-charging effort from inside the penalty box.
The Aggie backline of Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Macy Matula and Margo Matula got loads of help from the midfield, including Kat Campbell and Taylor Pounds to record Texas A&M's seventh shutout of the season.
It was the first time Arkansas was held scoreless at home since October 2022.
