Aggies battle the SEC leader in the regular season finale at Ellis Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team closes out the regular season Sunday, hosting the leader in the SEC standings No. 3 Mississippi State. Match time at Ellis Field is 5 p.m.
Coming off a 0-0 tie at No. 4 Arkansas, the Aggies look to build momentum heading into next week's SEC Tournament. They are also looking to bolster their NCAA Tournament résumé.
The Aggies will honor seven seniors prior to Sunday's match, including Olivia Fetzer, Allison Lowrey, Macy Matula, Grace McClellan, MaKhiya McDonald, Mia Pante and Jazmine Wilkinson.
Texas A&M is 8-7-2 overall and sit in a tie for eighth place in the SEC standings at 3-4-2. Mississippi State is on an 11-match win streak, owning a 14-1-0 overall record and 8-0-0 league ledger.
The Aggies own a 10-3-0 edge in the all-time series with all the meetings coming since Texas A&M joined the SEC prior to the 2012 season. Ol' Sarge's charges won the first nine matches, outscoring the Bulldogs 29-3, including six shutouts. Mississippi State went on a three-match win streak in 2021-22. Last season, Sammy Smith netted a late penalty kick as the Aggies won in Starkville, 1-0. Seven of the last nine matches have been decided by one goal.
Texas A&M has seven shutouts through 17 matches, including blank slates by three different netminders. Most recently, Sydney Fuller made a career-high 10 saves and the A&M backline added two defensive saves in the scoreless stalemate at Arkansas. Fuller has four shutouts on the year, blanking Fairfield (3-0), TCU (2-0) and Missouri (1-0). McClellan has two shutouts and Maysen Veronda recorded one in the opener before a season-ending injury.
Sydney Becerra leads Texas A&M in scoring with 17 points on six goals and five assists. Grace Ivey has four goals on the year. Pante and McDonald both sit at eight points each tallying three goals and two assists.
Bulldogs' goalkeeper Maddy Anderson has a 0.20 goals-against average and 12 shutouts in 15 matches. Mississippi State's stout defense is allowing just 2.33 shots-on-goal per game.
Mississippi State has three players with double digits in the points column, led by Ally Perry with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. Aitana Martinez-Montoya has 14 points on five goals and four assists. Zoe Main has 10 points on four goals and two assists.
