Smetannikov Wins Blue Draw Singles Title at H-E-B Invitational

WACO – Texas A&M women's tennis racked up six singles victories and a doubles victory in the H-E-B Invitational this weekend, highlighted by Daria Smetannikov's three wins to claim the blue draw singles title in singles.
Smetannikov dominated in the tournament, winning each match in straight sets. The junior started off strong on Friday against Rice's Darya Schwartzman, defeating her 6-2, 6-1. The Marlboro, New Jersey, native carried her momentum into day two versus Houston's Sophie Schouten, claiming a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In the finals, Smetannikov downed Illinois's Violeta Martinez 6-1, 6-2 to cap off her impressive weekend.
Lexington Reed added the first two singles wins of her career, as well as the first doubles victory of her career in her debut for the Aggies. The freshman battled UTSA's Vittoria Baccino on day one of the tournament and edged out a 7-6(1), 1-0 win. Reed added another victory on day three when she took on Nebraska's Emma Rizzetto (6-0, 3-0). In doubles Reed paired with Smetannikov to defeat UTSA's Letizia Corsini and Ekua Youri 6-4.
Lizanne Boyer also added her first win of the season on Friday. The junior took down Rice's Nithesa Selvaraj 6-2, 7-5.
