Soccer Hosts Lafayette for Sunday Night Bout
Aug 30, 2025 | Soccer
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team wraps up the home portion of its non-conference slate when the Aggies host the Lafayette Leopards for Sunday's 7:30 p.m. match at Ellis Field.
The Aggies enter the fray with a 2-0-2-mark, notching wins against Lamar (1-0) and UConn (2-1) along with draws versus Baylor (1-1) and Texas State (1-1). Their last attempt to play – Thursday at Denver – resulted in a no contest due to a lengthy weather delay in the 68th minute.
Trinity Buchanan has scored in the last three matches, the first Aggie to accomplish the feat since October 2022. If she finds the back of the net against Denver, Buchanan will become the first A&M player with goals in four consecutive matches since Shea Groom in 2014.
The Aggies' backline has helped spark the scoring in 2025, contributing assists on four of their five goals. Hattie Patterson leads the way with two helpers while Riley Crooks and Mia Scranton have added one apiece.
Bella Yakel has played all 360 minutes to lead the Aggies. The starting center back entered the campaign as the most seasoned A&M player having battled 4,132 minutes during her three seasons at Portland. The senior defender has 61 Division I caps on her resume, including 53 starts.
This marks the first meeting between the two institutions on the soccer pitch. It is also a rare Patriot League foe for the Maroon & White. The three previous meetings all came against the military institutes. The Aggies are 2-0 vs. Army and 1-0 vs. Navy.
Lafayette is 1-1-2 on the campaign, coming off draws against Drexel (0-0) and Seton Hall (1-1). The Leopards opened the season with a 2-0 loss at Siena and recorded a 1-0 victory over Central Connecticut State in the home debut. Katrina Santelli has accounted for both the Leopards goals. Catherine Apker has played all 360 minutes in goal, posting a 0.750 goals-against average with 14 saves and two shutouts.
